We used Hey Iceland to book our guesthouses for our trip and had a great experience. We even had to cancel 2 of the guesthouses because of a medical issue, and had no problems getting in contact with Hey Iceland and fixing our issue. Highly recommend!

I booked 8 nights of hotels, the car, and several excursions though Hey Iceland!, costing thousands of dollars. We were scheduled to begin our trip on November 17, 2023. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the airport, we were informed of a rule that American passport holders must have passports that expire more than 90 days following their return trip from Iceland. Because my daughter’s passport expired 84 days after we were to return, we would not be allowed to fly. Obviously, this was crushing news.

I figured Hey Iceland!, to whom we had paid thousands of dollars to book this trip, must have at some point warned me of this rule. Nope! I scoured my few emails from them, scoured my itinerary, etc. There was absolutely no mention of this passport rule. In fact, you might think that a tour company providing accommodations from airport to return airport might even ask for your passport information to make sure all was well. Nope! This company only exists to mark-up cheap stays in Iceland and keep your money.

I immediately emailed Hey Iceland! to inform them that we were not allowed to travel and ask for a refund. This was a Friday, so their Hey Iceland! office was closed for the weekend. (Now, why would I , or ANYONE book from a tour company that closes on weekends, I’m not sure?). When Hey Iceland! received my email that next Monday morning (apparently) they informed me that I could be reimbursed for two excursions later in the week but could not be reimbursed for anything else. Not the rental car. Not ANY of the hotels. And not the excursions that had taken place after my email informing them of our trouble but BEFORE they reopened their office on Monday. Thousands of dollars – just gone.

Now, of course Hey Iceland! could have made this right in any number of ways. The hotels they contract with over and over surely allow them cancellations. And what car rental service takes 8 days of car rent when you never pick up the car? But they have greedily kept the money I could have used to rebook this trip. In fact, given my troubles, they offered me a 15% discount if I wanted to rebook with them! Ha! They were running a 15% sale on their website at the time – thanks for nothing.

Finally, their Marketing and Sales Manager emailed me back simply to say that, as a lawyer (my email signature says I’m an attorney) I should have known the rule that, even if your child has a valid passport, it must be valid for 90 days after your trip when travelling to Iceland. The fault, they explained, was “entirely” mine.

While less disturbing than the failure to refund, I also find it very telling that I was able to re-book my trip without Hey Iceland! in January, including all hotels (refundable of course), car, and excursions, for a FRACTION of the price that Hey Iceland had charged to do the same. We’re even in nicer hotels we got to pick out, rather than the grab-bag Hey Iceland foists on you. Take it from me, do NOT give this company your money. You could end up out in the cold – and not in the way you intended.

Had a wonderful time in Iceland. My travel expert Brynhildur was very accommodating and considerate throughout the planning of my itinerary, it was very pleasant. Also, the trip went smoothly for a first timer and solo traveller in Iceland like me. Though the weather in Iceland was kinda unpredictable, I had visited the places I wanted to see and was able also to visit places that was recommended to me. Over all, i had very beautiful memories in Iceland. Thank you very much Hey Iceland for your kind assistance. It was magnificent and was a dream come true. ????????

Absolutely wonderful, highly recommended! After checking different options, we decided to contact Hey Iceland: as a couple with a young toddler, sometimes we appreciate the easy option. Best choice ever! The agency provided a list of possible tours, and we went for a self driving one, because of flexibility. They booked us a car with a toddler seat, hotels and guesthouses with toddler beds, and sent us a tablet with a preloaded itinerary tailored to our needs, plus options to customize it with more locations and activities. The locations are stunning, we particularly enjoyed the Sel guesthouse! We had a great time, I'd love to visit again in the future!

The Hey Iceland team were awesome from start to finish. I had never used a travel agency in another country before but Sandra made it all very easy. She helped us plan a great nine day route, working in hikes we wanted to complete. The tablet was super helpful, and the service while we were in Iceland was very quick. One of our hotels cancelled at very short notice due to a flood and the Hey Iceland team quickly found us another spot. All in all they made our time in such an amazing country fun and easy.

They organized the trip to Iceland for me and my family this summer. Hotels were mostly fully booked but the HeyIceland team did the "magic" and could arrange a good tour. the accommodations were all quite nice. The HeyIceland team was always really kind and helpful in every circumstance.

A remarkable adventure w my girls….a family affair. Indeed the Blue Lagoon was spectacular. We loved Mytavn. We spent 10 days on the Ring Road. Iceland is mythic. I loved breathing the air, the spectacular luminescent sky, the sound of the winds and water.  The landscape is unlike any I have seen. My daughter and granddaughter (15) sat sorting the smoothest of black stones on lava black sandy beaches. Everywhere the sky loomed large above the dramatic landscape, craters covered w moss.  It shall certainly change how we see the earth and how we live our lives.  My granddaughter’s father was born in Cork.  A bit like Ireland she said.  She has a bit of Viking in her soul.  They took some lovely and crazy pictures.

Enigmas:   No swimming...Do people really swim with glaciers?  We came to a road to a site blocked by 3 large boulders..an interesting though difficult way to close a road.

Of interest: The planting of birch trees on ridges, around homes and surrounding greenhouses, the forest..brilliant, of course the geothermal energy

HeyIceland has helped us to design and to book our 12 days tour around Iceland in a totally fantastic way. Very compentent and lovely people there. The route was perfect for us, a family of 2 adults and a 15 year old. Accomodation very good with nice hosts. Everything was really perfect and great. They know the places and how to organize them in the best way following your needs and possibilities. Would always ask them again! Thanks Hey!

Having never been to Iceland before, we wanted complete information about accommodation with private bath, exciting sights and relatively new car. This was exactly what HEY Iceland offered. Also we wanted to be free and independent from other travellers. We were most satisfied with the competent and swift service before and during our 13 Day tour. And yes, the price was high but well worth it!

We had rented bikes for a group of 13 to tour Heimaey Island. An unexpected May squall had us disembarking from the ferry in rain, 40 degree temps, and 35 mph winds- not your ideal biking conditions! Hey Iceland had our back, though! They had booked a three hour bus tour of the island for us, instead, for the same price as our original bike rental. We got to see everything that we had wanted to see (including Puffins) and did not have a wasted trip to the Westman Islands. Thanks Hey Iceland!

We did a self drive tour through Hey Iceland in April and it was Great! The car was waiting for us at the airport, and we were off in minutes! They gave a us a tablet with our itinerary on it, which also worked as a hotspot so we didn't have to use our cell phones at all. Just make sure you keep it charged up at night, because it doesn't charge well from the car USB.

The itinerary was brisk so we had almost no wasted time (though we skipped a few thigs for the occasional rest). we saw almost everything we wanted to except the northern lights, but you can't control that. They chose our accommodations and they were for the most part great. Love that there is breakfast included because food is a big expense there, and the breakfasts were varied and delicious. I would recommend this agency to anyone.

I used Hey Iceland for a last minute 4 day trip (booked 1 week before arrival). I was so happy with how easy it was as I didn't have time to research anything. The car and hotels that were booked for us were great, I would've picked the same hotels out.
The tablet is where they lost a star - In theory its great, super easy to use with lots of activities and sites booked, however, for us the tablet only half worked, it stopped reading out exits when navigating on day 2, and we never figured out why. Additionally, a road was closed because of flash flooding and we were unable to cross, the GPS kept rerouting us through that road which was super frustrating, so map was not up to date, as there was notices for several days already that the road was closed. Furthermore, there's a lot of details they could add for each stop; such as entrance fees, parking, accessibility (walking distances, stairs), facilities on site (bathroom, restaurants), we showed up at a lot of sites totally clueless. And for my tour there was several area I found on google maps that I wish were included on the tablet! My tablet tour went right past blue lagoon without mention!
When I emailed about a payment issue, I received a prompt response that same day.
Additionally, this was probably my fault, but the rental car was a manual car, so I would recommend looking closely when booking to ensure you can drive the car you're given. I didn't have to swap cars, not sure how difficult that would be.
Overall, I really enjoyed the experience, and sites I was introduced to, and I have recommended Hey Iceland to several people already, and will continue doing so.

this is the perfect way to travel! Hey Iceland helped us plan a 5 night stay in February in this beautiful country. They made our reservations, suggested things to see and do along the way and provided a tablet that gave us a step by step itinerary every day. We were able to move at our own pace and avoid all the commotion of the tour buses. Their customer service is excellent. We heard back from them quickly with each and every question. They even notified us of a pending strike in the country that could have impacted our stay - it did not. But having that information was invaluable.
I only wish that every country had it's own Hey Iceland! It is the best way to travel!

I don't write a lot of reviews, and am reluctant to award 5-stars because improvements can usually be made, but overall Hey Iceland excelled in helping us organise our 21 day tour plus assisted with car hire for the additional 5 days. We'd left our booking somewhat late in the season but Inga worked hard to help us to visit the places we wanted, and solved a few problems along the way. We knew the accommodation would be somewhat isolated at times, rather than in towns, so made our own plans for evening meals. A hearty breakfast was always included. The car provided was reliable and more than capable of the ring road and Westfjords. The route took us to all the attractions we wanted to see and Hey Iceland provided some excellent additional suggestions. The tablet was useful but not infallible so we saw some unusual places not commonly visited. It wasn't quite up to date so some roads had changed and new tunnels opened, but overall it was better to have it than not. And some instructions in its use would have been handy as we expanded our understanding of it each day for weeks. Overall we had a great holiday in no small part due to Hey Iceland, and we felt that it represented good value for money.

We used Hey Iceland to book our hotels and car first in 2020 with great email support but then when Covid hit, we rebooked for 2022.

First the positive - it was super easy. The car was great, the tablet in the car was great and almost everywhere we stayed was great. Low budget but clean and comfortable.

It CAN be a great solution but you have to be careful about what accommodations they offer you or really know the geography in advance.

The negative - we got ZERO (borderline unclear) support in advance. We booked our trip months ahead but there was largely silence for extended periods from Hey Iceland to answer questions. I repeatedly asked for ideas about what to do in each place and the suggestions offered usually involved things we had to pay for (which were far more expensive through Hey Iceland that direct booking) versus what to see. I specifically asked for hike ideas and the person helping me said "look on AllTrails."

Once we got to Iceland, we found the locations of our accommodations were often no where near the "town" listed for the location. One place supposedly near Egilssadir was actually 45 minutes out in the east fjords - totally out of the way, nowhere near what we wanted to see/do, no food nearby, and no food offered at the hotel. When we arrived, we found that our room's slanted ceilings meant we could not sit up in bed. The owners were warm and welcoming but the room was not.

Also - we specifically and repeatedly asked to change one accommodation to be closer to Myvatn (we were put in a hotel 45 minutes away in the wrong direction for two nights). The agent just would not budge. The place she chose required significant backtracking. Moreover, it was far closer places we had seen already than the places we needed to reach. Again - no food anywhere nearby and no dinner offered at that location (despite the website's description offering dinner).

We had to pay out of pocket to stay somewhere more convenient and we are still waiting for our refund for the night we did not want nor use.

One hotel they chose was completely out of character. Outside Vik we landed in a hotel geared toward large tour groups with a massive dining hall with long tables. It felt like a catering hall with zero personality The wait staff had no idea how to deal with individual travelers like us (and probably was a Covid super spreader).

Finally - support by chat or phone, offered on the tablet was nonexistent. No one is around on the weekends and no one responded to our issue about the Myvatn hotel mentioned above.

Again - this CAN be a great solution IF you know where things are located in advance but otherwise it's a bit of a crapshoot and buyer beware. You have to be VERY careful and do your research ahead of time.

We booked the “around iceland in 15 days”tour with car rental and accommodations. No bad surprise at all , everything was settled, in any detail, matching our requests, thank you Olof :)A great variety of guesthouses, from the more simple horses farm to a luxurious stay in Akureyri but every time with a very welcoming reception. The Pad was of great help as a gps, a weather forecast or a tourist guide (please forgive our lazyness in sharing places and observations we made during the trip, despite the interactive program). Checking with other guests who were traveling on their own we realized that the hey Iceland rates were very reasonable. We did not experiment the excursions.

We loved our trip to Iceland and Hey Iceland made it so simple. We just had to show up and go!

Great Iceland and well organised innovative type of vacation!

As an amateur (non professional) tour leader of a group of 8 italian friends (4 couples) I organized an 18 day trip to Iceland. For internal logistics in the country, after contacting several tour operators, I chose Hey Iceland because both their website and the first contacts gave me confidence. Never has a decision been so successful. I talked for months with the talented Travel Specialist Jaroslawa Maria Galbierz who, having understood my experience as a traveler, followed me with patience and professionalism, step by step, always finding the right solution to all my needs. Since taking charge of the cars (2 Toyota LandCruiser 4x4) to the various overnight locations we have not had a single problem: everything is perfect and above all "safe". We have covered over 4,000 km, of which almost 2,000 on dirt roads, touring the whole wonderful island, from the wild Westfjords to the Arctic Circle, helped by splendid weather (almost never seen rain) and by a temperature well above average. For those who love and seek unspoiled, complete and diverse nature, Iceland is a country that is absolutely worth seeing but also difficult to self-organize, as I normally do. Hence the need for a reliable local partner like Hey Iceland that I highly recommend.
