My wife and I had a wonderful stay in Bayeux in October 2024, but the visit has been somewhat tainted by the lack of communication regarding a refund of 190 Euros for a cancelled Hotel Churchill shuttle trip to Mont Saint-Michel on Sunday 13th of October. ||As we sat in the bus before leaving, the shuttle driver Terry informed the 6 passengers that the Abbey would be closed to visitors on that day, that the trip would be a waste of time and had anyone from the hotel notified us about this. ||The answer was no. The trip was then cancelled. ||I was the only passenger who had paid upfront (11 October), the other 4 passengers had left their credit card details for payment on the day. Clara (staff member) told them that payment wouldn't be deducted from their account and that my fee would be refunded the next day, as she wasn't able to transfer the money on the Sunday. ||It's now 4 months since the staff member gave me their word on behalf of Hotel Churchill that the refund would be transferred to my account on Monday the 14th of October. ||Still nothing has happened!||I have been very patient regarding this. Communication to Hotel Churchill's customers doesn’t appear to be of great importance. I believed the staff member when she said that the matter would be taken care of quickly. ||It's hard to understand the lack of communication. I have sent several emails to the hotel and left 3 telephone messages asking someone to call me. The last email I received from the staff member Clara was on the 4th of December stating that the money transfer would be completed in December 2024 on return of the manager (Jean-Luc), but nothing has happened since Clara's email.||I have received no communication from the hotel since December 4, despite my replies to Hotel Churchill and Clara. ||To be waiting 4 months is a ridiculously long time, particularly when the initial promise to transfer the relatively small amount of 190 Euros was made on Sunday the 13th of October 2024. ||Staff members Clara, Carole and Johnny have always been helpful and courteous, but it seems that the owner or manager of the Hotel Churchill just wants me to go away and forget all about the matter.||What I’m asking for is very simple; the promised refund of 190 Euros transferred to my bank account for a service that was not provided. Money that Hotel Churchill is not entitled to and continues to hold. ||This is as much a matter of principle, as it is of money. It is about ethics, honourable behaviour and reputation. ||Wouldn't maintaining a good reputation, particularly in the hotel business be worth much more than 190 Euros? ||I find it hard to understand why a hotel that relies heavily on customer relationships, particularly with a name like Churchill would behave in such a way. ||It does make me wonder if Hotel Churchill has financial problems, or is going out of business, but surely not over 190 Euros.||I do get the feeling that the staff member Clara feels as bad as my wife and I do over this, but her hands appear to be tied by the manager Jean-Luc.||I've also found it very difficult to find out the name of the hotel's current owner, an almost impossible task.||It's hard to understand why staff never answer the telephone or return calls to the contact numbers left on the Hotel’s message bank as stated. Maybe Australia is too far away.||My wife and I will not let this Hotel Churchill saga reflect badly on our wonderful time in Bayeux, but shouldn’t those who act in unethical and unscrupulous ways be accountable for their actions? |As yet no one has returned my call. ||I live in Australia and am at a loss of what to do, as yet, no one has returned my call. ||The tourism office in Bayeux have been helpful and tried to get to the bottom of the matter, with no luck, but I guess there is nothing they can do. ||Maybe the hotel should change its name to Faulty Towers of Bayeux. ||Is there anyone out there that can help?||Regards |Michael Dale

This is a nice hotel in downtown Bayeux, in walking distance of many shops and restaurants. I enjoyed my three days stay at this hotel while I visited the Normandy countryside in historical World War II sites. The staff was very friendly and helpful and even made reservations for Me.

This hotel has a great location, but that is its main positive attribute. We spent 3 nights and we had no wifi access in our room the entire time. We complained at the front desk regularly and each time the staff person would react as if it was the first time anyone ever complained about the lack of wifi. Each time we were told that it would be checked immediately, but no service ever occurred. We had a very similar experience with the bathroom heater, but it did start working after a day or two.|Our room had a coffee maker, but we had to ask for coffee each day. The room was clean and fairly large by European standards, but ours fronted on the street and was very noisy at night| As others have noted, there is no lift in the hotel. Our room was on the second floor up a spiral staircase-if you have mobility issues you should not stay here. |On the whole, we thought it could be a nice hotel, but it seems tired and neglected. We would choose other accommodations if we returned to Bayeux.

Our family stayed at the hotel Oct 15-17, 2024. We reserved 6 rooms. The hotel has a undeniable favorable location in town. We were initially meet with a friendly receptionist upon arrival but that's when the pleasantries ended. We arrived early and where unable to check in, no problem we weren't expecting to . The receptionist marked our suitcases with our room numbers in chalk and put our bags in the Bar/Breakfast room. We went out exploring and meet our Overlord Tour for our half day Omaha Beach excursion. At 5:30pm we returned to the hotel and checked in. We were advised of the Breakfast times and the Bar operating hours. My room was on the 2nd floor up a number of stairs. The hotel is very old.... the stairs tilt a bit.||The next morning I got up to go to breakfast left the room and the hallway was pitch black there was no lighting. I started down the stairs, forgetting the tilt, I lost my footing and fell down a flight of stairs. My husband was right behind me. He helps me up ...we get to the bottom of the stairs and he tells the receptionist what just occurred. Her reply " you must turn on the light". No "oh my goodness is she ok?"||I am close to my 60's in age.... I know how to turn on a light. In all my travels I have never had to turn on the interior hallway light of any hotel I have ever stayed at.|If I had been advised to do so upon check in I would have certainly done so. I ended up with a severe sprain, we made the rest of my travels painful.||We encountered several other patrons of the hotel who complained about the lack of lighting.||The hotel could remedy this with motion detection lighting... or even something as simple as a sign at the stairs explaining that the lights must be turned on.||The rooms are decent, the breakfast ok. The hotel rests on its Laurels a bit, and I feel that staff does too. |||Annette
