My family stumbled upon this place after my 9yo begged for dim sum after a day in Chinatown. Small, quaint and friendly, and open after 5pm. We had the fried egg roll, steamed meat, shrimp dumplings, udon chicken soup and fried udon noodles. We wanted to go back the next night but they are closed on Tuesdays. We'll be back the next time we are in San Francisco.

Want fast and cheap dim sum take away? This is the spot. It’s not we’ll know like the other famous place. But you know this is legit because all those waiting in line are local Chinese and not non-Chinese, hipsters or foodies ????

This is the better real deal for those in the know. Check out the people in line and decide for yourself.

It’s a not frills or thrills store front. Food is amazing though. I will always stop by when I am in town. I went back twice in one day!! Yum.

I ordered for take out. The soup dumplings were amazing (15 min wait) and well worth the wait. The taste was very authentic. I paid using visa.

The food was piping hot and most of it was really good. However the bok Choy was just not good. The bigger problem we had was that the restaurant was just dirty. The bathroom, the walls in the dining room, the flap that the waitress touches with her probably dirty gloves every time she walks into the kitchen. I hate leaving such a scathing review as it seemed like everyone there was working really hard to give us a nice experience. Happy to retract this review once the restaurant posts photos of remediations.

My family and I came in after seeing the storefront without high expectations, but then I had the best fried chicken of my life here. The plates were all flavored very well without being too salty or strong, and everything was excellent. My favorites were the salt crisp chicken and the preserved egg congee (be warned though, this comes in a large portion!)

Yup, exactly how I like it. Price is insanely valued where you can get 3 dishes and it will fill you up big time. The kiosk kind of suck in how it works but you can always order it at the counter. My recommendation is always the shrimp dumpling, shumai, and noodle roll (shrimp PLEASE). That's such a great experience! If you're with several people, the fried balls with either red beans or beef is a good supplement.

I didn't wait too long like 5 mins max.

Nice little restaurant in Chinatown, San Francisco. The ingredients are fresh and tasty.
We found it open at 7 pm, which is unusual for the area (most shops and restaurants close at around 5pm).

This is a great place to stop and grab a quick bite. Not too many vegetarian options, but the sesame balls are heavenly and the spring rolls are deliciously crispy. The prices are great and depending on the time of day, the wait is decent. Well worth it either way!

This is a good find for the quick dim sum places. It's the best one I found in SF and I have eaten my share of bad to meh. It's not the same as the quality restaurant ones like Osmanthus or Harbor View, but for a quick to go, it's good. It's more like a 3.7 than a 4. I tried Grant's Place and a 3-4 other places and I would not go there again. Char siu bao was good-ish, turnip cake pretty good, and the shrimp and chive dumplings, was flavorful the wrap consistency was not chewy enough. Overall, I would go back when time is limited. Otherwise, find a good dim sum restaurant. Btw, staff was nice and they had a giant IPAD for ordering with pics!

Dim Sum Bistro, similarly to Good Mong Kok Bakery (another local favorite dim sum spot), is very much one of those typical "hole in the wall" asian restaurant in the US.

So, on what occasion would you find yourself at Dim Sum Bistro? Well, you want affordable food and you could care less about service. To further elaborate, the restaurant is not a sit down restaurant. The interior is small so when a line forms (in which it almost always does) the restaurant feels crowded. While the line to take your order proceeds quickly, there is another line of people patiently standing by till their order is called.

The food itself is alright, taking into consideration how cheap the food is. While you do have staple items like Shrimp and Pork Siu Mai, Turnip Cake with Pork, Preserved Egg w/ Pork Porridge, (+a separate order of) Chinese Fried Donut, you do also occasionally find yourself ordering foods that you are better off not ordering.

All the Rice Noodle Roll items we ordered: Shrimp, Pork, and Beef were disappointing. The ratio of the rice roll to stuffing was just off - mainly the noodle rolls were weirdly thick and there was little actual filling inside. Perhaps to save on extra costs.

On top of the above mentioned items, I also ordered their Pan Fried Shrimp and Chive Dumplings which were alright, and a couple other items like their Pan Fried Shrimp Cutlets and Deep Fried Sesame Ball, which were completely missed. Not sure why they gave us Rice Cake instead but by the time we were back home with food, it did not make sense to go back just to correct the order.

While it might make sense to order food to go from Dim Sum Bistro for convenient, cheap food, I do not think it is worth it to wait in line for an extended period. The establishment is again small and there is no area to sit and wait for your food, whether that be inside or outside. If that does sound like you though, have a fun 40+ minute wait or perhaps come back when the place is least crowded.
