Petits déjeuners et check-in ou check-out tardifs possibles.

To address the (relatively) unchangeable first. The rooms are small even by Europeans standards. Add in a poor design layout and it was barely tolerable for 4 days with one person. It was advertised as 17m2 but felt much smaller due to the design elements on the curved wall and wasted space by the windows due to their electric curtains. while these give a modern aesthetic I'd rather have the 3 inches of space around the bed. I can't imagine 2 people in my room or the 12m2. The wardrobe would only hold a carryon and not a medium size/checked bag. Additionally the toilet closet is strangely next to the front door and opposite the shower and sink, requiring a trip across the entire room to wash one's hands.
The laminate and plastic design elements while appearing somewhat modern lead to a very cheap appearing aesthetic.
When I arrived the room was quite warm (I'm guessing 23-25C as the heater was set at 22 and not running), I couldn't turn on the air conditioning and when I called to inquire about this I was told it "automatically" turned off due to the unseasonally cool weather. I stressed that despite the morning being cool (but warming that afternoon), it was quite warm in the room and that I booked a room with ac for that reason. I was told 3 times it was all automatic and thats just the way it is-- to open the balcony door to cool the room. I didn't book a room with natural cooling and could have for €50+/night cheaper nearby. Add in the ?food smells and bugs outside, I said this wasn't an option and it was only after the 4th time when i said to send someone for my bags and I would come down to speak to someone about checking out and get a refund did he say "let me do something for you". The ac came on within a few minutes. If the solution was that simple there is NO reason it shouldnt have been accommodated the first time I asked. This is terrible customer service/ hospitality and can only be explained by the hotel being too cheap to run the heat and ac in the same day and for a 4 star at these prices is completely unacceptable. I have many times in winter, outside temps below freezing with snow, had to start the ac in hotels as the common areas and surrounding rooms transfer too much heat. If I book a room with ac it should be available ANY time otherwise it should be advertised on their website as "seasonal" or "situational" air conditioning and I would know to stay elsewhere. Additionally starting a stay off by lying to customers sets a terrible tone and creates mistrust for the entire stay and brand.
On check out I again mentioned these problems and the gentleman said it was french law to have the AC off below certain temperatures. However at my hotel across town the AC worked well from the beginning for the 3 previous days despite being cooler outside all 3 days. Either that hotel was breaking the law or this is another bending of the truth that seems so common at this hotel.

The "Gym Room at The Jules & Jim Hotel" isn't in fact in the hotel. It's a room in another building, across the street, Requiring an escort for admission to (not key card controlled). It's mostly a rower, bike, and cable machine, dumbbells only go up to 10kg so fairly limited but nice equipment. My issue here is that like so many things at this hotel it's a little bit of false advertising to call it a gym AT the hotel when it's in an entirely different building across the street with a separate address.
