Unfortunately, I was treated appallingly. I arrived at 8.55pm — the restaurant is small, cosy, and had at least three empty tables, including a perfect round table for four.
I was greeted at the door by a young man. I politely asked if he could seat four people. What happened next was simply shocking. Within 4 seconds, I was on my way empty-handed.
He bluntly said, “This is a gastronomic kitchen; it closes at 9pm,” then turned around and shut the door — without giving me even a second to request a reservation for another day.
The restaurant closes at 11.30pm! Why would they refuse a walk-in at 8.55pm with free tables? I have never felt so insulted in all my years dining at fine restaurants. Every guest should be treated with respect — who is this person to let the restaurant’s reputation down so badly?
Any decent restaurant with properly trained staff would warmly explain that the kitchen is about to close and offer to make a reservation for another evening. Even if disappointed, I would have felt valued and welcome and I would have made a reservation for another day. unfortunately I was not welcome and not wanted.
I have never been treated so badly when simply trying to make a booking. It left me feeling like British people are clearly not welcome at this establishment — a real shame given the restaurants good reviews.
I welcome the owner to make contact and explain why they allow staff to treat people like this.
