Hôtel de grand luxe de quinze chambres toutes équipées d'un minibar à Épernay.
Ouvert depuis septembre 2005, cet hôtel est une ancienne maison bourgeoise de la fin du XIXe siècle, ayant appartenu à Eugène Mercier, fondateur du champagne Mercier, et transformé en hôtel de quinze chambres ayant chacune leur propre style et une décoration unique, mais toujours d’un grand luxe et d’un vrai raffinement. Elles sont toutes équipées de minibar, coffre-fort, air conditionné, salle de bains avec baignoires et bénéficient des dernières technologies (téléphone, Internet, téléviseur à écran plat LCD avec satellite). Vous pourrez vous détendre dans le bar à champagne, dans les petits salons feutrés ou prendre votre petit déjeuner dans la verrière restaurée dans le style de cette demeure et profiter de la vue sur le parc. Au bord de la terrasse, vous pourrez, également, profiter, à tout moment, de la piscine extérieure chauffée. La Villa Eugène possède un parking, gratuit et fermé, dans la propriété. Le site Internet de l’hôtel présente une galerie de nombreuses photos donnant un excellent aperçu des beautés de l’établissement.

When we checked out, the receptionist told us we could return later to use the pool before our 7pm train. We planned our day around that. But when we came back at 5pm, a different receptionist abruptly told us the pool was only for current guests. We ended up waiting two hours at the station with our luggage instead of relaxing. For a hotel claiming 5 stars, that’s unacceptable.
The hotel itself is authentic, in a nice location near Avenue de Champagne, and the building has character. Staff at breakfast and the pool were friendly. But service overall was inconsistent. Breakfast was basic (no eggs on demand, limited variety), there’s no restaurant, and a promised email with dining suggestions never arrived. The rooms also feel a bit tired, and the pillows were uncomfortably hard.
We live just an hour away and I had actually thought we might come back, but after this experience, definitely not. At this level, service and comfort should be the priority, and Villa Eugène misses the mark.
The public areas featured a lot of Louis Vuitton steamer trunks, antique luggage and other LV memorabilia.
The location was excellent, we walked to the center of Epernay each day and stopped at several champagne houses along the way.
This was a very nice boutique hotel and I would readily stay there again.

Unfortunately, our overall experience was marred by a serious miscommunication at check-out. In the morning, we asked the lady at reception if we could return later in the day to enjoy some time by the swimming pool before our train. She confirmed with no hesitation that it was perfectly fine.
However, when we came back later that day, we were met by two young women at the front desk, Ayfer and one of them a brunette, and the brunette girl (Not Ayfer) informed us, somewhat dismissively, that the pool was only for current guests, despite the fact that we had just checked out and had received explicit approval earlier. It happened on Monday, July 14 around 5:20pm.
This inconsistency completely disrupted our plans. We had organized our afternoon based on the initial confirmation, and now found ourselves stranded for over two hours waiting at the train station. It left us with a bitter impression and sadly overshadowed the rest of our stay.
Having worked for Atout France for several years, I know the standards of service expected in the French hospitality industry, and this is not it. A luxury property should offer not only charm and comfort, but also clarity, consistency, and above all, respect for its guests’ time.
