The Antonine Wall, the most impressive project Scotland had seen, stretched across the country from Clyde to Forth. Built around AD 142 by the Romans as their northern frontier, it's now a UNESCO site.
Unlike Hadrian’s Wall, the Antonine Wall was mostly turf, 3 meters tall, with a deep ditch northward and an earth mound. Seventeen forts and 'fortlets' housed 6,000-7,000 men. A service road, the military way, aided quick troop movement. Stroll along the wall or savor a few hours outdoors. All walks are brief, leisurely, and suitable for families with young kids.
