Ce bel hôtel particulier, dont la partie la plus ancienne remonte au XVe siècle, est un lieu chargé d'histoire. Il est géré par l'association Fermat Science, qui œuvre pour faire connaître l'œuvre et l'héritage du mathématicien Pierre de Fermat, né à Beaumont-de-Lomagne en 1607. Cette association s'attache également à rendre les mathématiques accessibles et ludiques à travers des expositions, des ateliers pédagogiques et des événements scientifiques. Le musée permet ainsi de découvrir son parcours et son influence sur le développement des mathématiques modernes.

It was a real treat to meet Marie-Laure, whose enthusiasm for sharing the history of Fermat set the stage for our visit.
The brachistochrone demonstration could benefit from an overview of how Bernoulli, in his proof that the brachistochrone is the cycloid, used Fermat's principle of least time for light refraction. This ties in both Fermat's method of maxima and minima (which anticipates the infinitesimal calculus) and his work on light. I recognize that of course it is not possible to include _everything_ in a museum!
