I was told by locals that when you visit Bordeaux, you shouldn’t only go to the big-name châteaux. Visit the family-run ones too — that’s where you’ll find true passion, humility, and heart. And after visiting Château La Fleur Lauga in Saint-Julien, I couldn’t agree more.
I had the chance to visit during the Printemps des Châteaux Médoc event on April 5–6, when many local châteaux open their doors for tastings. It was such a special experience. I tasted several wines from Château La Fleur Lauga and was genuinely impressed, not only by the wine itself but by the people behind it.
The owner welcomed guests with warmth and enthusiasm, and you could feel the deep passion he has for winemaking in every word and pour. The atmosphere was lively, open, and incredibly down-to-earth — people came and went, conversations flowed easily, and the experience felt truly personal. It’s the kind of warm, authentic charm you don’t always find at the larger, more commercial estates.
This visit was a reminder that wine is not just about the taste, but about the people, the story, and the soul behind it. Château La Fleur Lauga gave me all of that — and more.
Merci beaucoup !
We had a warm welcome and delicious wine tasting !
Merci, nous reviendrons avec grand plaisir
After a slightly disappointing day elsewhere ,we stopped as we knew that walk ins were welcome & free -how pleased we were.
We were treated to a lovely cellar door experience with this small producer.Half a dozen reds tasted and one excellent white made by his wife elsewhere.Charles ,who spoke excellent English, was passionate , amiable and had a no-nonsense approach to wine,if you're easily confused by the "mystery of wine" , that's not going to happen here .
All the wines, to our palate were superior to anything we had tasted during the day (and bought).
Don't pass by , you will purchase some lovely, unique wine you're unlikely to be able to buy anywhere else .
Highly competitive price (11-30 eu)with the white an absolute " steal " at 7 eu!
Fantastic end to the day , one of our most enjoyable tastings , round the world
Regards
