BALLYCOPELAND WINDMILL
Historical Windmill in East Down, Northern Ireland, offers guided tours throughout the year
Just a stone's throw away from Millisle, County Down, the Ballycopeland Windmill visitor centre features the last remaining model in operation of the mill and hands-on experience of milling in Northern Ireland. Built in the late 18th century, the owners, the McGilton family, operated the windmill up until the First World War in 1917 before it progressively fell into disrepair and was finally acquired by the Northern Ireland government in 1935. Opened to the public since the 1970s, the visitor centre offers a guided tour enabling to help bring these stories to life. There is also a cosy café presenting a wide range of local favorites, elaborated with fresh sourced produce.
