Highly recommended. Suggest 3 nights or more !! to fully immerse in the San Giorgio experience. Felt like 1905 as a guest in an English style boarding house.
The hotel has a fascinating family history. It's 3 spacious lounges, gracious and containing an eclectic mix of old furniture.
The lovely gardens infront of the hotel are strewn with comfortable sun beds and shaded settings for every preference and lead to the lake beach.
The beach is perfect for a cooling swim after tourist work. It has an independent bar and snack shop which is great for immediate cheap gratification of hunger or thirst.
Staff were charming, there when you needed them but otherwise invisible.
Food was excellent and priced very similarly to up market restaurants down the street. (E.g €15-20 for mains).
The ambience of being served in the garden as the sun goes down over the lake is free!
Drinks and extras were also very reasonably priced (€8 for a generous negroni cocktail, €5 beer).
A very extensive cold breakfast (all you can eat) buffee was €10. Personally cooked omelettes were €6 extra.
Our room 49 was wonderful - the 3rd floor, overlooking the lake with the added pleasure of a large bathroom window doing the same. The squeaky floorboards were amusing at first...
Despite other reports, all our friends reported the beds to be very comfortable.
The rooms have TV and a safe but no fridge (thus increasing the orders for Negroni's) or personal tea and coffee (each cup needs to be purchased).
No air conditioning was not a problem for these upper rooms as we slept very comfortably even in 30+ heat. (Interesting that there were hardly any insects even though there is no flyers and we left all windows open.
The lift is a relief in hot weather and for luggage.
wifi is fast for web browsing, email & Facebook. Annoying to have to log into their router every time you pull your phone out. The hotel wifi network also blocks nearly all online storage (e.g. photo upload, Dropbox etc) and streaming services (news video, YouTube etc). I used an iPhone VPN app to bypass these restrictions....
