No me gustó el hotel, no está limpio, no fue un desastre, pero tampoco lo elegiría de nuevo. No tienen aire acondicionado, hay poca ventilación, no te ofrecen agua embotellada, hasta el papel sanitario es malo.

We stayed for two nights after a long flight into San Jose. The hotel Santo Tomas is quite an oasis in the middle of this vibrant and at times loud city.

We enjoyed our large room (despite the fact that we were not able to find the advertised safe), swam in the pool after a walking city sightseeing tour and my partner trained at the almost fully equipped outdoor gym.

We booked the room with breakfast which was simple but tasty. I think you could also put everything that needs to be cooled down in the refrigerator that's on the 1st floor.

The hotel is only a couple of blocks from the main streets but still our room was very quiet which we very much enjoyed.

The reception and the food team were very really nice. It's a non-smoking property and secured parking behind a gate was a huge plus.

We can also recommend Cafe Rojo just opposite of the hotel for dinner for example.

I stayed in an economy room at Hotel Santo Tomas. I assume my well aged room was one of the most basic they offer for $65.00 USD per night. It's a very old building with high ceilings, old tile and woodwork. Courtyard is a nice natural oasis, workout equipment located in open air room off courtyard. Lots of nice places to sit for breakfast. Coffee in the machine in the entry lobby costs $3.00 USD. The hotel is located near some very good restaurants. Amon neighborhood had historic houses to admire.

We are staying in Hotel Santo Tomas for this week and i must say my wife and i are very impressed.

The hotel is located centrally and is accessible to many of the tourist spots and transportation options.
hotel is clean, large, we'll kept.
Hotel has a character which is rare nowadays. Some hotels are more cookie cutter and apper like it was made in a factory. Santo Tomas on the other hand has beautiful hand carved bed heads, Our room had two tables, a sofa, two beds, tv, tall ceilings, large toilet and very spacious room.
Tomas who owns the place is very thoughtful and goes out of the way to make his guests feel at home.
The staff are also very responsive and have a great demeanor.
Staff speak good english and spanish.
Good breakfast options

Tomas went out of the way to change the shower heads in our room when he heard I had undergone a ankle surgery. And this shower head makes it more accessible for me. He even sent us a chair to help me be seated when making a shower. I must say all this made us very happy to have chosen his hotel

Decent quiet hotel in a good location. They upgraded me to a balcony room for free. Friendly receptionist with good English. Only downside was they didn’t really have anywhere secure you could leave luggage after check out.

My husband stayed at this hotel a few days ago and it is very convenient to any place you need to go visit. This was actually his 2nd time there and he absolutely loves this place. It has a lot of character, charm and history and the owner Thomas goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable and his staff is super friendly and always helpful to whatever your needs. If you need a place to rest after your trip this is a must see hotel and I will recommend to all of my friends to goes to Costa Rica. I would give this 6 stars if possible.............I am looking forward to my next visit.........

Hi Thomas and all the good folks on your team! Thanks for the hospitality. In particular, I really enjoyed seeing the Festival De La Luz 2023. Fantastic! From your hotel, this event is only a few, reasonably safe, blocks away. Also as close nearby, are museums and the central plaza. The typical Costarican breakfast included was tasty and filling, served fast without fuss. With a small bit of help from the front desk to make happen, the rental car experience was easy. I had no safety issues with the surrounding area. As usual, I met plenty of interesting fellow travelers during this stay. I'll be back again! Cheers!

Our arrival at night was a little sketchy. It’s not a great part of town with barb wire and a locked gate. Upon entering the lobby it’s dark, dingy and dated. The room was the same with yellowed comforters, pillow cases and sheets. The bathroom had some kind of mystery black spots on the sink and floor. Not sure if it was mold or dust or what. Breakfast is pretty limited but if you aren’t a picky eater, it’s probably fine.
On the positive side, the pool area is pretty cute. Also it’s a great location to walk to many sites. The staff seems nice enough. The mattress was comfortable too.

Positives: It is budget hotel in the downtown area. If you plan to use buses for travel across CR, it is a good location as bus stations are a walking distance. It has a swimming pool and gym. Staff is very helpful and friendly.

Negatives: It’s location is also a negative. The staff advised us not to go out in the dark as it is unsafe (possibility of mugging). They even advised us against waiting outside the hotel for the Uber. The area around and the road on which it is located looks rough. We stayed for one night and our room had dirty bedsheets and pillow covers - an "economy" room does not mean cutting corners for cleanliness. The decor of the room and bathroom are very dated, which wouldn’t be a problem if maintained and cleaned properly. The pictures do not reflect the true condition of the/our room. Breakfast felt very minimal.

Conclusion: If you can afford a little bit more stay along the national museum area.
