There are lots of apartments and a hotel nearby. This place is a total noise nuisance. All their customers come out onto the pavement to smoke and they make a noise throughout the night - 2am, 3am, and 4am - until it eventually closes. Their door staff make no attempt to quieten down their customers and the noise is horrendous. How this place is allowed to operate in a semi residential area is beyond me.
Merci
The bouncers at this venue need urgent vetting and it is really disappointing to see you have been warned again and again in these other reviews.
Between 2-2:30 am on March 8th (yes, International Women's Day), a deeply disturbing incident occurred near the couch by the DJ/mirror. One of the security staff—a heavy set man with mid length floppy hair—put his hands around a woman's neck and strangled her on the dancefloor while shouting about respect. He didn’t like how she had playfully engaged with him while he himself was dancing on the furniture. She did not resist, yet he used excessive and brutal force. Fortunately, she happens to be trained in the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression and was able to remain calm. Had she struggled, the outcome could have been far worse.
Even without resistance, he continued applying force in an attempt to cause harm and dragged and pushed her while clenching her neck. She has since experienced persistent neck pain as a direct result of his unjustified assault.
When four people tried to report this to another bouncer once off the premises (where the culprit could no longer act unchecked), we were shut down with a dismissive "I believe him because he's the bouncer." The lack of accountability was alarming, and even the bouncer who defended him avoided eye contact with us, totally unable to deal with this indefensible situation.
This is beyond a one-off incident; it speaks to a culture of hiring people who are there to abuse their own perceived power where they likely have none elsewhere. Review the footage. This cannot be ignored. It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt—or worse.
Women deserve to feel safe in your venue. This was not just excessive force; it was violent, dangerous, and a lucky escape.
When we were entering Carmen we met a bouncer on the outside who we later bumped into on the dance floor
As he was one of the first people we met in the queue, when we saw him on the dance floor my friend and I gently tapped him as a way to say hiiiiii again :D (I tapped him on the shoulder and a friend brushed the front of his nose - weird but with no harm intended)
This bouncer then proceeded to flip out, claiming my friend (a small joyful woman) “punched him in the face” he grabbed her by the **neck** and dragged her out of the club
As a woman this just felt like another classic case of a powerless bouncer-man feeling the need to “assert” whatever limited power he had, to display whatever limited “dominance” he needed
Welp… I hope manhandling yet another woman gave you whatever power-trip you needed ????
