Downsides: can be noisy at times.
Low rumble from the RER was very audible on the first floor. As was the rain. And the walls are a bit thin. But this is an old building in an old city - most hotels at this price point will have the same issues.
Our room was cleaned daily (THANK YOU!) and we always had fresh towels, a nicely made bed, trash taken out, etc… which is such a great feeling when you are out all day walking the city.
We definitely enjoyed our stay!
The staff at Hotel Observatoire are genuinely helpful and welcoming. While the hotel doesn’t offer the extensive amenities you might find in an American hotel, the team here goes out of their way to ensure all your needs are met. They are very responsive – any time I had a question or needed to make changes, my emails were answered within 1 to 2 hours by an actual person, not a bot.
Now, a quick note about the elevator – it is tiny, but it’s definitely helpful when it’s working.
On the topic of the rooms, they are very small. I stayed with my mom, and it was fine since we have a close relationship, but I can’t picture staying there with a friend I’m not super close with, especially since the beds are quite close together. If you’re traveling alone, it could be great, but if you’re sharing the space, it’s something to consider.
During our stay, the elevator broke down, and we were on the 5th floor. For some reason – I’m not sure if it’s specific to the hotel or just how things are in France – the elevator couldn’t be fixed over the weekend. This was quite inconvenient, particularly for my mom, who is 70, and going up and down several flights of stairs wasn’t easy for her. The receptionists were kind enough to help with our bags when we left, but it did feel like more could have been done – perhaps repairing the elevator over the weekend or arranging staff to help with luggage.
Would I stay here again? Yes, I enjoyed the location and the staff’s hospitality. However, my mom wouldn’t, given the challenges we faced. So, it’s really up to you to decide if Hotel Observatoire is the right fit for your stay.
Hôtel très bien situé
Literie confortable
