However, this museum felt that it had a very personal history for the town of Forges-Les-Eaux .
The artifacts that are shown in this museum are some that I have not seen in others. Especially the striped uniforms from the prison of war camps. The letters written and the stark photo's from those camps.
All such museums show us what it was like in those circumstances of war. This one especially for me, as I feel the group who manage this museum have really gathered so much , lest we forget. (Also a short video to watch )
Well worth a visit.
Some amazing stories and artefacts but I wish I had done the upstairs first as I was a bit rushed.
It is pretty much all in French so you do need to have enough vocab to be able to understand it (or use a translator app) but it is well worth the effort
It has so many artefacts and storys about the lives of those from the area and surrounding area. The museum does not glorify the war, but protrays a very personal and moving account of the war and it's effects on the people involved.
Dowsnstairs concentrates on the resistance, soldiers and battles from the area. It shows the impact on the war effort.
Upstairs concentrates on the deporation of people from the area. Not only for religious reasons but those working against the occupation. It is a lesson to us all and great reminder on the effects of war and occupation in these troubled times.
We sent a lot longer in the museum than we had planned.
Very well presented and very moving.
