Our stay at Château des Arpentis was nothing short of enchanting. This historical castle strikes the perfect balance between old-world charm and modern luxury. The château has been beautifully preserved, with its architectural elegance intact, while offering all the modern amenities and comforts you could wish for.
The atmosphere was peaceful and restorative—truly a hidden gem tucked away in the woods. We spent our days relaxing and enjoying the breathtaking views of open meadows dotted with grazing horses and framed by majestic, mature trees. It felt like stepping into a French countryside dream.
If you’re looking for a serene retreat with a rich sense of history and refined comfort, Château des Arpentis is a perfect choice. We left feeling rested, inspired, and eager to return.

As you turn off the main road, onto the gravely path with overhanging trees, and you see a grand chateau looming in the distance you're instantly transported back in time. Whether its Downton Abbey, Serpent Queen, a murder mystery film noir, a spooky supernatural or horror flick, or roaring 20s soiree, this place has all the right vibes. Every night we were imaging what we were pretending to be. ||From the moment you pull up you'll realize this is an experience. Behind the chateau is a scene out of a book or a painting. An expansive elevated yard, a babbling stream you can hear at night, a stone bridge crossing the stream, and on the other side are wide, expansive meadows with a few horses milling about. The property is huge, well kept, quiet, and ever so peaceful.||The common areas are quite interesting. Like a scene out of the 1980s movie Clue, it's amazing what kind of vibes you can generate at this place. The spooky hallway mounted with taxidermy animal heads, the creaky floorboards, and the quietness at night really completes the scene. Breakfast is served in the morning but you need to let the owner know the night before because it is specific for each room.||The front desk area is not always staffed but there is a phone to call the owner(s) who I believe live on-site. Laurent and Amayric or Aymeric (sp?) are wonderful and always greeted us warmly. ||We had the Quentin & Aymeric Suite on the top floor. This room was HUGE. Exposed beams, an expansive space, large windows overlooking the yard and meadows beyond the stream, a nice tub in the center of the room (low water pressure though), plenty of storage room, separate sitting area, a small bathroom, and back bedroom with two small twin beds for children. An adult could sleep there but it's really intended for children. If you're wanting to splurge, get this room and be the Lord of the Manor!||Hotel location requires you to have a car as it is NOT in a town and you cannot walk to anything nearby. Amboise is less than 10 minutes by car and easy to get to. ||Stay here for the experience, the vibes, and make it fun. One night in particular was quite foggy and eerily quiet so when we were outside we pretended there were ghosts and werewolves in the meadows and we were running to get back to our room. You can have so much fun here.

We really regretted staying here. The room was very hot when we arrived, but we were told that the building can either get A/C or heating but not both. The man at the front desk told us to open a window. I really wanted to pack up and leave at that point but figured we’d lose at least one night’s payment. We opened the windows and this of course lets flies into the room and it did not always keep it cool enough. The carpet is old and needs to be replaced. I think the place could use a makeover inside. The stuffed animals on one floor give off Bates Motel vibes. Definitely not a place we plan to return to.

We just spent two magical nights at Chateau des Arpentis. The pluses: The interior decor is gorgeous and, although the castle dates to the 1300s, it has the necessary modern amenities. The pastoral views — small creek, lake, and nearby grazing horses — are breathtaking. As the weather was still cool, the pool was not open so we can't speak to that. And if you're looking for evening cocktails and/or a round of bocce ball on the terrace, you won't find it here, which is precisely why we chose to stay here. There's not a lot of pretense. Other reviewers mention the lack of pomp and circumstance which, thanks to them, is one reason we chose to stay here and not at other castle-hotels. So the only "negative" is this: If you're a high-maintenance traveler, this isn't the place for you. But if you crave staying in a beautifully decorated hotel and having serenity, I highly recommend. Also, car rental is a MUST.

This hotel is definitely 5 stars all the way and I highly recommend it! You get to stay in an authentic French country manor!
We stayed in the Donatien room, which is the attic room. It was huge with a large, comfortable bed, gable window, wood beamed and vaulted ceiling, and walk in closet. The wood ceiling and stone walls make for a beautifully rustic room.
The view from the window looked down on a pond and a group of horses beyond. Every morning we loved seeing the horses and saying good morning from afar.
There are wooden steps to get up to the room, but that was part of its charm. Be careful when carrying your bags up/down.
The hotel operator, Laurent, was very kind and very helpful. Anything we needed, he was there. He checked us in, escorted us to our room, and gave us a tour. Much appreciated!
A highlight at the chateau is the salon on the first floor. It is a beautifully decorated parlor and game room, with a feel from the past. We spent several hours in there, playing cards, drinking wine, and eating charcuterie. The down time was great after a day of sightseeing.
I only knocked off a star for location because of the distance to town (which is too far to walk) and the difficult driveway. A huge tip: No turning left into the driveway from the road AND no turning left out of the driveway! Right turns only! There are traffic circles in both directions and you must use them. We came in from the north (from Paris) and continued past the driveway to the next traffic circle. There, we turned around to enter the driveway with a safe and legal right hand turn. We got used to it quickly and had no issue (and no traffic tickets or accidents).

Such a beautiful hotel / Chateau. The grounds of the Chateau are incredible. They have 3 horses that are so friendly that you can visit. The pool is so beautiful and it is heated for the summer months. The rooms are spacious and so comfortable. The breakfast is just croissants and coffee but they have a fridge/kitchen in the hotel so you can buy groceries for your stay. It is a 6 min drive into the Amboise town but you will want to spend most of your time enjoying the chateau!

Beautiful building in lovely grounds but it should be more transparent that this is NOT a hotel. It’s a room only B&B. There is no place to get a drink, snack, no mini bar, no tea / coffee in room. There is a small salon with a coffee machine. Taxis / Ubers impossible so you need a car. It’s such a shame because with some basic hospitality this would be a lovely place to stay. We found it soulless. The towels also are very old and threadbare. The room itself was lovely. The breakfast was adequate.

This is an attractive "country" hotel with few services. The location is great, about 15 minutes from Amboise proper (and has nothing to do with the restaurant of same name). The surrounding countryside is beautiful, as is the property. The rambling chateau is well-furnished and comfortable -- you can do your own laundry or make coffee. Basic continental breakfast is offered. Alerts! Pool was not open in October, taxis difficult to summon (no concierge help), and the attic rooms are barely accessible by a narrow set of stairs (no-one over 40 or with lots of luggage should attempt). With these limitations, we would recommend it (my husband liked it better than I did). We very much enjoyed nipping into town for several Great meals in small charming excellent restaurants, and it was easy to get to the "major" chateaux for touristing.

Château is absolutely beautiful. Our room was very deluxe. Sheets weren’t the greatest quality. Housekeeping could’ve been better. Service in general was cranky and lackluster.

Stayed here toward the end of October for two nights during our honeymoon. When we arrived, we were greeted by Laurent and then taken to the room I requested, the Catherine, which was stunning. We promptly changed and left to visit local wineries. Upon our return, we found tons and tons of baby spiders on the ceiling in the bathroom. Needless to say we called the front desk because we couldn’t shower or use the bathroom. Unfortunately, the front desk never answered the phone. The next day, we let them know and thankfully they cleaned the spiders out of the bathroom. Then again we left Les Arpentis to visit chateaus, and upon our return at 10pm, we came back to find hundreds of lady bugs in our room. We managed to get a hold of the front desk to complain, and Laurent refused to give us another room to sleep in. He said there was nothing he could do and claimed there were no other rooms available (which was a lie, as it was off-season and there were only two other occupants). He repeatedly said that we needed to deal with the bugs and that “they would not eat us” and he had no way to keep them out. After continued arguing, Laurent offered another room.
In summary, the chateau was beautiful, but outdated, quite old, and infested with bugs. If you can tolerate the bugs, then I’d certainly recommend this. Personally, I don’t wanna sleep with bugs in my room even if it’s an older chateau. I expect more this day and age and will not be returning.

Our very own chateau for two days. So clean, cosy, and welcoming, with elevator and complete handicap access. The host speaks English. We had a large room with a big window looking out on a field with horses. The bathrooms were modern with a roll–in shower. We weren't able to use the swimming pool since it was cold and rainy during our stay but they say it's heated to 28° and they will open the cover if it's warmer than 20° celsius. The grounds are beautifully tended and immaculate. But the very best part is the salon on the middle floor which takes you back a couple hundred years to the days when this was a hunting lodge. In the hallway lots of deer and boar trophies and even evidence of an African shooting tour. Inside the salon are hundreds of wonderful coffee table books to peruse as well as a grand piano, a billiard table, and a card table. Very refined and picturesque.

This hotel could truly be a hidden gem: the renovated château is beautiful, the rooms are pleasant, and the surroundings are absolutely stunning. The location is also convenient if you have a car.
However, it’s clear the place is not run by hospitality professionals. Service is indifferent at best, there’s absolutely no food available, and room cleaning feels perfunctory—though the property itself is very clean. You must pre-order breakfast the night before (and not too late), or you’ll miss out.
Another major letdown: the pillows are terrible—more like decorative cushions than anything you’d want to sleep on.
In short, a wasted opportunity. The place is charming, but the experience falls flat due to poor management and lack of care for guest comfort.
