Established in the 13th century atop a secluded hill within the lush Tywi Valley, Dryslwyn emerged as a crucial stronghold for the ancient kingdom of Deheubarth in south Wales. The castle became the focal point of a substantial conflict between Welsh and English forces. Responding to a rebellion led by Welsh lord Rhys ap Maredudd, 11,000 English troops were deployed to initiate a siege on the fortress. The ruins remain accessible, vibrant testimony to previous conflicts. The place is easily accessible by car, or bus line 277.
