Great experience staying there. We visited off season so we were the only guests and it was very calm. The rooms are cozy and all the staff is super kind and helpful. We loved to spend our evenings playing cards or just having long conversations with the volunteers. We will come back for sure!

I am so happy to have stumbled across this gem! I extended my stay (thank you for letting me, David!) and still didn't want to leave when it was time to go. Such peace and beauty – in nature, the people and the place.

O David, o nosso “host”, é altamente profissional, foi deveras atencioso, atento e presente, mas não invasivo. O local está em plena comunhão com a natureza - é um pouco remoto, por isso impera a tranquilidade da natureza, o silêncio apenas cortado pelo mar e pelo vento. A comida é boa, feita com dedicação mesmo sendo um local de recursos limitados. O ambiente entre os hóspedes sempre foi de elevado nível, com conversas extremamente te agradáveis ás refeições . Como o local é de acesso remoto, pouca ou nenhuma rede móvel (no local há um pouco …) e sem mercearia, aconselhamos a ler com atenção todas as recomendações que a Guesthouse envia no descritivo em .pdf que envia uns dias antes da reserva. Recomendamos totalmente, para aqueles que querem comunhão com a natureza e se afastar do mundo.

I usually don't write reviews but in this case I feel the need to express how amazing my stay was at the Caldeira surf camp. The cooks were absolutely great and friendly during the entire stay. The people working at this surf camp are genuinely the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. The rooms are always clean, and I loved how efficient and practical everything was. Wether you are traveling alone or with your family or friends, this is the best place to stay if you want to have a good and relaxing time in Sao Jorge. It is safe, beautiful, clean and so very fun.
I sincerely thank the staff and workers of the camp for making my stay all that special. The connections you will make on this island are beautiful.
I hope to be back soon for another adventure.

Ein aussergewöhnlich schöner Ort, wie eine Insel auf einer Insel. Die Ausblicke und das Essen sind super, man kann selber kochen, aber dafür sind die Köche zu gut. Man kann sehr gut wandern, aber ich würde zumindest einmal mit dem Quad mitfahren, ein Superspaß. David und sein Team sind supernett, ich kann die Unterkunft nur empfehlen und würde bestimmt wiederkommen.

Perfection! We stayed in one of the private rooms for three nights. The room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed getting to know David and everyone at the Calderia, who were all warm and welcoming. We had a great time talking with the other guests during the family style meals. The food was amazing! The hotel grounds are fantastic, beautiful landscaping, with unbelievable views. We hope to return!

After driving every day for a couple of weeks, we decided to slow things down a notch with a stay at Caldeira Guesthouse at Faja da Caldeira de Santo Cristo. Another of Sao Jorge’s gems, this faja is a little harder to access than some places, with just two trails in and out. But a visit is well worth the effort, and its isolation is part of the allure. The guesthouse accommodations are remarkably comfortable. We slept so well! The food is top notch —fresh, balanced and wholesome. The easygoing vibe around the common dining area makes it a great place to meet fellow travelers. David and his crew took good care of us. It’s easy to see how much they love this place, and, once you’ve been there, it’s easy to understand why.

Amazing people, very good home cooked meals and the atmosphere is very special. Great to relax or do outdoor activities. A place where you can relax and enjoy the nature. Won't be the last time I stayed there ????

This place is absolutely incredible! More of a hostel vibe with shared bathrooms and kitchen and everything (unless you pay for private). The staff is so so friendly and if you opt into dinner (extra charge) it's so delicious and served family style at a big table which was an added bonus. We met many cool people from all over the world this way. The place is also located right smack in the middle of 2 of the absolute best hikes and has places to swim as well. I would absolutely repeat this experience. If you stay, I highly recommend booking for a minimum of 2 nights. People staying for just 1 regretted booking for just 1 night. I wish we would have booked all 3 nights on the island here!

Einzigartig, wunderschön, ganz was Besonderes!! Wir (2 EW und 1 Kind) haben 4 wundervolle Tage bei David und seinem Team verbracht! Wir haben auch jeden Tag bei Ihnen zu Abend gegessen - Teresa ist eine tolle Köchin, die mit Liebe, abwechslungsreich kocht! Auch das Frühstück ist großzügig; man hat alles was man braucht (übrigens; man kann auch Mittagessen, wenn man möchte) Vielen Dank für dieses grandiose Abenteuer!

Our stay at the Caldeira Surfcamp was the highlight of our vacations. For the location of course but also for the stay at the house.
The atmosphere of that location is incredible : bottom of the cliffs, by the sea with comfortable bedrooms, great food, lovely table set up for our evening dinners and great company. David and his team were always available to share information.
When we go back to the Açores, the caldeira house will definitely be on top of our list to visit again !

Le paradis sur terre. La guesthouse de David et toute sa famille / équipe est un lieu hors du temps comme on en trouve plus. Merci pour ces deux jours de pure déconnexion et de partage !

Very special place on the Acores.
Worth a visit, especially if you are up for some quiet time in raw nature, for easy going friendly people and possibly for a surf? But be warned, it's not a spot for surfing beginners, as the entry into sea is rocky and the waves (although some of the most constant beautiful waves) are large.
Also one has to walk to the surf camp for about an hour. There's a quad bike luggage pick up offered for the ones with large suitcases.
Breakfast and dinner (15€ p/p. for starter, entry, main dish and dessert) were great and made with love. One could taste it! There are no shops around, so if you plan on staying longer also plan your grocery shopping beforehand.

Um lugar incrível, com pessoas incríveis, que vale muito a pena a visita e mais ainda, vale mesmo a pena ficar! Óptimas instalações e óptimas refeições, que promovem o convivio entre as pessoas.

Such an amazing spot! We did the hike down to Faja Santa Cristo from Serra do Topo, and then out through Faja dos Cubres when leaving - which was incredibly beautiful, and then spent a few days in this magical location – wish we could have stayed longer, but they were fully booked.The atmosphere and vibe of the Guest house is awesome, staff is very welcoming and friendly, rooms and beds super comfortable, meals they provided were great. Had a day of really good surf while we were there too!!! Would highly recommend staying here.

This place is beautiful. We stayed for 5 nights and it was absolutely worth it. Could also have stayed for 2 weeks ;)
The atmosphere is more like in a hostel. You eat together on a large table and can have nice chats with David and the stuff. Super nicely decorated dorm and private rooms with sea view right from the door. Good breakfast and dinner.
You can not go there by car/taxi. You either have to walk (~1h hike) or David can schedule a quad to take you and the luggage to the house. Also you might bring something to eat because there is no market nearby.
Best place on the island to surf. Only for intermediate/good surfers when the waves get bigger. I hope I can come back one day
