The room was sweltering hot the entire duration of my stay. Though the a/c showed it was set at 16 celcius, it barely blew any air. I asked for it to be fixed and was told it was ‘working properly’.
I’m not sure how that could have been given that the a/c in the common room was set at 22 Celsius and it was perfectly cool in that space. My a/c barely blew and the air coming out was not even cool.
I had to leave the door to my room open to get a bit of circulation (because the windows do not open). The other guests I spoke to agreed that my room was super hot and stuffy compared to their rooms and the common room.
Thank goodness I was only here 2 nights. It was utterly miserable… taking cold showers to avoid adding more heat to the room, and sweating buckets getting ready in the morning so I could leave before the sun came up and turned the already hot space into an oven.
If the windows opened, it probably would have been bearable at night. But they are not designed to open and because of that, I would advise you not to risk staying here if temperatures might possibly climb into the mid-20s. With only a few rooms, it is unlikely that they will be able to move you if something is wrong. And their only other solution was to refund my unused night so I could find another hotel which wasn’t really a practical option at the time with the Rugby World Cup in town.
The proprietor was kind enough to retrieve a camera battery and charger that I left behind and offer to mail it to me. But was otherwise unsympathetic and seemed irritated with me about the a/c issue. If I were him, I would have brought the guest a big fan, even if I had to go buy one.
The location was fine if you like the right bank. I’d only ever stayed on the left bank so I thought I’d try another area. I’ll stick to the 5th or 6th for future visits. I didn’t feel super safe walking around here after dark by myself.
There is also no way to get a hold of anyone after hours here if you have a problem. That’s just kind of a scary thought. After my experience here, I won’t stay at another hotel that doesn’t have staff available 24/7.
