CHÂTEAU LOUISE DE LA VALLIÈRE ^{* * * * *}

I have been lucky enough to visit top hotels around the world from Iceland to Aspen to Manila and beyond. This is now among the top 10 in my experience. From the moment you wait for the heavy iron gates to open, this property exudes luxury, authenticity, and top-notch service. The common areas are incredibly decorated with period-appropriate everything from shelf after shelf of ancient books in the bar to the fresh-cut flowers on every table in the dining room that are changed throughout the day. I missed in my research that the staff dress in 18th-19th century apparel. While everywhere else i have seen this seemed a bit cheesy, here i could not imagine them dressing any other way to avoid conflicting with the dedication to the period of everything else. My American friends, there are no elevators (only 2 flights) and the A/C is not what you might be used to, (works, but not strong) but these are minor matters for this truly unique step back. The rooms are spacious and remain true to the theme. They expertly hide all modern amenities in closets and the bathrooms have all mod cons. Our room had 3 oil paintings and a 10-foot velvet headrest with 18 electric candles around the room. Oh, and a fireplace. Truly special. |Instead of concierge, they have butlers on duty 24 hours a day. From calling us to check on us when we were running late for a reservation to double checking our train tickets because the departure time did not seem usual to them, the detail-orientation is world-class. |I will close with also recommending the spa treatments where we had truly expert treatments from clearly expert technicians and the restaurant where traditional dishes like frog and pigeon are expertly prepared in interesting and flavorful ways. I will say one area they might adjust is the multiple duties it appears staff have in the restaurant/bar that sometimes left guests wanting attention. But when it arrives it is truly professional...|

Un lugar mágico en medio de un marco verde. El pequeño castillo de Louise de Lavallière, una de las grandes favoritas del rey Louis XIV, es un sitio ideal para desconectar de todo y disfrutar de un lugar esplendido, con unas vistas espectaculares. El personal, muy amable (Por cierto, uno de ellos hablaba perfectamente español), va vestido con ropas históricas del siglo XVII, todo un viaje en el tiempo. La comida -era un brunch, 70 euros por cabeza, con copa de champan y café- era exquisita. En definitiva, una escala perfecta entre dos visitas a los castillos del Valle del Loira.
